Another update
It’s hard to find crisp, concise and at the same time descriptive words to tell about our Chrysalis experiences. So plain and simply put, our recent trip to Singapore and the Philippines was excellent.
Singapore John participated in Bethel Presbyterian Church’s post service inductive Bible study experience. The approximately 50 Bethel members were involved and engaged in the interesting and helpful discussions.
Manila, Philippines The International Chrysalis Institute - Asia (ICI-A) Team meeting was very forward thinking, with plans for September 2008 ICI-A well in hand. The Team met together in a very lovely setting, an exclusive club room overlooking the city, as guests of one of the Team members.
ICI - A Resource Persons are “on board” with the focus, philosophy and ministry of helping develop younger leaders throughout that part of the world. John and I met with several of them to communicate “who and what“ we–Chrysalis–are, and we found these outstanding Resource Persons to be of like minds and hearts. It was wonderful for us to be able to share together!
Resource Persons, as of this date, are: Dr. Andrew I. Liuson, Ph.D, a successful and committed Christian business executive with Cityland Development Corporation,; Mr. Joey Bonifacio, pastor of Ft. Bonifacio Victory Christian Fellowship, Mr. B J Sebastian, Director of Corporate Planning for JG Summit Holdings and faculty member of the Asian Theological Seminarys MBA program; Bishop Efraim Tendero, Director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, and of course, John. We are so blessed to have these outstanding Filipino leaders accept the invitation to be Resource People, and to take a week of their busy time to spend with the outstanding younger leaders from Asia who will attend. More about this ICI - Asia in future blog messages.
The 6th Annual Younger Leaders’ Conference for Filipino younger Christian leaders was held in Tagaytay City, about an hour south of Manila. Once again we had the honor of being a part of this Conference, which this year focused totally on the subject of Mentoring. John has had a great deal of experience on the subject (he administered the program at Fuller Seminary for a number of years, has taught on the subject and we both have been mentors in formal mentoring programs in the past). So this conference was one we related to very well – John’s part was bringing the Bible study sessions for the leaders each day, and these seemed to balance the Conference very well.
As always seems to happen, we met and shared with new and interesting people, and had a great time with young leaders with whom we have ongoing relationships. Our travels were good, safe, and timely. And we even worked in time for a beautiful breakfast with several thousand people, honoring Ann Graham Lotz (Billy Graham’s daughter, who was in Manila for a Women’s Conference) and a dim sum lunch in Singapore to celebrate Chinese New Year!
We are always grateful for prayers for us, and the encouragement that so many people give to Chrysalis. Thanks for your part!
Blessings, Carol
